The Sol Mates Guest House complements a historic 1928 cottage relocated to Captiva Island, blending coastal charm with practical design.

Challenge

Solution

Inside, the home features three bedrooms, four and a half baths, dual offices, an art gallery, a media room, and a steam room, with seamless transitions into the outdoor living areas. Custom built-ins throughout the home, each designed by AJO, anchor the interiors with both function and artistry. In the media room, a wood-stained ceiling brings warmth and intimacy; in the kitchen, a textured ceiling covering adds subtle depth.

A hallmark of the design is the custom floating staircase, which blurs the boundary between indoors and out. At its base, natural rocks continue from the outdoor landscape into the interior, creating a breathtaking connection to nature.

Outdoors, expansive balconies frame views of the Gulf of Mexico, while a pool, cabana with swings, outdoor kitchen and dining area, fireplace lounge, and a zen-inspired sculpture garden complete the resort-like experience.
