Seeking an office space that went beyond the typical bank or wealth management firm, the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company enlisted Architect Joyce Owens to transform a vacant Bank of America building.
The project involved a comprehensive renovation that converted this 1980s bank into an elegant and modern island headquarters for the Trust Company.
Construction began in 2022 but was slowed in the fall due to Hurricane Ian. The building's exterior and interior underwent significant updates: the roof was replaced, the exterior was repainted, and extensive landscaping was added.
Notably, the old drive-thru teller window was repurposed into a covered outdoor garden, featuring beautiful landscaping, trellises with climbing vines, and benches for employees and guests to enjoy. This space also serves as a venue for gatherings and celebrations.
To reflect the company's prestigious clientele, the interior. embraces a sophisticated Tropical Bali style, with rich dark wood used throughout. Lighting, wall coverings, artwork, furniture, and finishes are all carefully selected to align with this aesthetic. Every detail, from the conference room to the break room and even the restrooms, was crafted with practiced precision.
The lobby is spacious and inviting, featuring slowly turning ceiling fans on a wooden vaulted ceiling that evokes a sense of island nostalgia. A key design element is blurring the lines between interior and exterior spaces. All offices benefit from natural light, with live plants and outdoor views integrated into the design. Large windows, glass doors, and glazed panes provide a connection to the outside from every room, fostering a sense of community within the space.
With over a dozen private offices, a large conference room, kitchen, and functional outdoor areas, the Sanibel location of the Trust Company is well-equipped for growth and hosting client events.
“We hope this new office can be another shining example of the recovery and resiliency of the islands, and how The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company continues to serve our island community.”
